Learning to Lay Down Those Burdensome Burdens
Burdens, Bundles and Bags
Do you ever feel like this woman? Have you felt the heaviness of your heart cause a stooping of your shoulders? Wow! I know I have! I've gone days - even weeks - bent under such burdens, worries, and angst that I felt as if I were in a dark tunnel with some oppressively low three-foot ceiling glaring down on me. The sad part of it all is that so much of what I was 'carrying' was simply the 'stories' in my head. I know now, that my sensitive nature amplified my cares and caused them to morph into weighty creatures of burden.
Emptying our Bags of Burdens
Certainly, there are legitimate concerns. But when we ruminate over a trying situation, we can increase its poundage in our heart. Ruminating has been my demise, I know. Every time I've chosen to mull over some unsavory aspect of my life, its taken oven more and more head-space, not to mention heart-space! With each pondering I've added more and more to the bag on my back. It's taken years to learn how to keep dumping out my bag of tricky little woes. I think I'm beginning to understand the expression about 'getting older and wiser.'
Let's Stop and Drop that Burden
We are not created as beasts of BURDEN. We ARE not designed to lug around heavy loads. Most of the negativity we feel is generated from the stories we tell ourselves and the running commentary we blather on about. So I say let’s just stop. Let's be kinder and gentler to ourselves. Let's halt our straining under our loads of accumulated narratives. Let’s stop and still ourselves. Let’s allow the heaviness to roll from our backs. Let's drop them on the floor. Then, rise and walk. And if, down the road we find another sack accumulating, let’s just lather, rinse and repeat.
