Check your stash
First, take inventory of what stuff you've already got squirreled away. Don't just bolt out to Michaels and start filling up a cart. No!
If you sew or quilt, I bet you have extra fabric scraps!
My first little ideas for using up those bits of fabric are 1) cover buttons and make adorable push pins. Too cute. 2) Glue the fabric scraps onto clay pots with Mod Podge. Just be sure to use one of the formulas that are water-resistant. Debbie from Debbiedoo's has some great pointers.
Do you knit or crochet? If so, then you'll probably have extra skeins of yarn lying about. Wrapping your yard around a simple Dollar Store frame makes for a stunning way to display your favorite photo. Those that have a wider margin are the best for showing off the gorgeous textures that happen. String some little beads on, too, for some added visual interest.
If you're a paper crafter, I'm sure you'll have some interesting cardstock cuts. Paper 'roses' are loads of fun to make and can be saved with your gift wrapping stash for a finishing touch to a special gift.Check this out! Here's a fabulous tutorial for making paper peonies.
That's not even close to being an exhaustive list. The possibilities are truly endless. And here are just a few more ideas for your Arts and Crafts party..
You might consider building you party around a season or holiday. Some seasonal ideas could be something like these. In spring, Easter Egg decorating or DIY terrarium-making. In fall, you could do pumpkin carving. Around Christmas, ornament-making or cookie-decorating would be tons of fun.
In concluding, really, absolutely any time of the year you could easily gather some friends to do something creative, even if it's simply for something like adult coloring or bath bomb making.
A Few helpful hints:
Make a sample
Make a sample of whatever craft you've chosen. Time yourself. It's important to find out how long the craft takes you from start to finish. Then you should actually double this number to allow for chatting while making the craft. in your test run, notice if you had enough materials. Were there any snags or challenges you faced? Observe the sequencing of the steps so you can guide your guests. Make note of any tricky parts they may need help with.
Plan your invitations, snacks, and decorations.
Ready, set, invite
Prep your Evite or Facebook event, or whatever means you'll choose to let your guests know about your awesome party. Paper invites are always an option, but make sure you do this at least three weeks in advance and ask guests to RSVP. You may want to think about these particulars, too.
The devil's in the details
1) Do you want guests to be able to invite a friend or their kids? Remember, clear communication is the best policy.
2) Who will provide the food? Will you prepare everything or will your guests pitch in?
3) Will you put up any decorating before the party?
OK. So, are you inspired to throw an arts and crafts party? I hope these ideas and tips have gotten your creative juices flowing!
